County Recognizes National Ag Day – March 18th

Westminster, MD, Thursday, March 13, 2025 – Today in Open Session, the Board of County Commissioners were pleased to recognize March 18, 2025 as 2025 National Ag Day, sponsored by the Agriculture Council of America (ACA).

This year’s theme is “Agriculture:  Together We Grow.”  The National Ag Day website states, “It’s a day to recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture. Every year, producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government agencies and countless others across America join together to recognize the contributions of agriculture.”

Carroll County Department of Economic Development staff, joined by Carroll County Farm Bureau representative Gary Dell from Dell Brothers Farm, Farm Museum Manager Jane Sewell, and University of Maryland Extension Service Principal Extension Agent Bryan Butler were all on hand as part of the proclamation. Economic Development created a webpage to celebrate the day and highlight a few farms or agribusinesses throughout the county.

Ideas to celebrate National Ag Day all week long!

Sunday: Plan your Farmers Market trips this year by checking out the 2025 markets dates for Carroll’s six local farmers markets. Visit your favorite or try a new one! Learn more at https://carrollgrown.org/farmers-markets/

Monday: Share your favorite agriculture or agritourism memory in a photo on social media. Use the hashtag #carrollcountygrown

Tuesday: Where’s the beef? More like where’s the local meat? Grab a sirloin, sausage, or drumsticks from a local farm and celebrate deliciously! Find a local farm for all your meat, dairy and produce needs at: https://carrollgrown.org/producer-list/

Wednesday: Have a youth interested in agriculture? Check out Carroll County’s local 4H clubs: https://extension.umd.edu/locations/carroll-county/local-4-h-youth-education/clubs/

Thursday: Wear your favorite farm or agribusiness merch—t-shirts, hats, vests, coats, jackets. Show your support to your favorite local farm. Don’t have any merch? Reach out to your favorite farm and see what’s available.

Friday: Raise a glass and responsibly celebrate the hardworking farmers that produce the wheat, barley, corn, hops, grapes and more that translate into your favorite brew, spirit or wine. Visit one of Carroll’s wineries, breweries or distilleries: https://carrollgrown.org/wine_brew_distill/

Saturday: Educate yourself about the agricultural industry by reading books or articles related to farming or research an agricultural issue in your area.

The county is happy to acknowledge National Agriculture Day as a great opportunity to recognize and celebrate the vital role agriculture plays in our lives and communities. Carroll County residents are encouraged to support local farms and agricultural establishments, acknowledging their ongoing commitment, contributions, and positive impact on the community.

Meetings are available for viewing on the county meeting portal and the county YouTube channel. In addition, all meetings are available on the county meeting portal.
